ORAU’s Timmerman receives National Contract Management Association Fellow Award

CHICAGO—The National Contract Management Association (NCMA) presented Heidi Timmerman, ORAU’s Procurement and Contracts Administration director, with the NCMA Fellow Award for her contributions to the field of contracting and her service to the organization.

Timmerman was one of nine NCMA members who were honored with the award at the organization’s World Congress held last week in Chicago. The Fellow Award is the second-highest award that its organizational members can receive. In addition to receiving the award, NCMA fellows serve as members of the NCMA Council of Fellows and act as mentors to upcoming organizational leaders. NCMA is a professional organization for those working in the field of contract management and has more than 20,000 members worldwide.

“It is an honor to be recognized by my professional peers,” Timmerman said. “I love what I do and the great people that I am privileged to work with.”

After becoming an active member of the NCMA in 2009, Timmerman served as a committee chair, chapter adviser and chapter president in the organization’s east Tennessee chapter. She also remains active in the local and national contracting communities.

ORAU hired Timmerman for the role of Procurement and Contracts Administration (PCA) director in 2009. Her background includes more than 20 years of experience in supply chain management and contract management roles. For the past eight years at ORAU, Timmerman has been responsible for directing daily and long-term PCA operations nationwide, which involve prime and sub-contracting, procurement services, coordinating the Strategic Partnership Projects (SPP) program (formerly known as Work for Others) and the Small Business program. The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Strategic Partnership Projects (SPP) Program allows DOE or DOE contractors’ personnel to perform work for non-DOE entities when the work is not directly funded by DOE. The program also provides for the use of DOE facilities for such work. Through the Small Business program, Timmerman helps ORAU provide subcontract opportunities, outreach and technical assistance to small businesses.

Timmerman holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and management from the University of Rochester and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Additionally, she has lifetime certified purchasing manager credentials from ISM and a Master’s Certificate in Government Contracting from The George Washington University School of Business. Timmerman has also obtained her Certified Professional Contracts Manager certification from NCMA.
