Radium Chemical Company Lead Pig for Radium Plaques (ca. 1940s, 1950s)
This is a steel-cased lead shield that was designed to store radium plaques. I am guessing, based on little more than intuition, that it dates from the 1940s or 1950s.
The case is 3" x 3" x 3" while the opening in the center for the source is 1" x 1" x 1." The label on the top of the case reads: "Radium Chemical Company., Inc. New York, Chicago, Los Angeles"
The company catalog describes it as a "Plaque storage box. No. 476., 1" lead, chrome-plated."
