Radium Playing Cards (ca. 1920)
Stating the obvious, these Radium Brand playing cards were produced by the Standard Playing Card Company of Chicago, Illinois. That the term "radium" refers to the type of finish is indicated by the following text from one of the "cards" in the deck: "Liberty Bell playing cards may be had in Regular, Pinochle or Narrow Whist size decks with either Radium or Linen Finish." Another "card" in the deck says in part: "Return this coupon to us any time between now and July 1, 1921, with 50 cents in stamps, postal or express order, and we will send you postpaid, the great game of BUNCO which is all the rage, and a pack of the celebrated Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Cards."
