Victoreen Model 575 "Radocon" (ca. 1955-1960)

Victoreen Model 575 "Radocon"

The Radocon Model 575 was introduced in 1953. I believe it was replaced by the Radocon II sometime in the late 1960s or very early 1970s. What is shown here is the control unit that could be connected to a variety of probes (the standard probe was a thimble chamber). The Model 575's primary application was controlling medical exposures, hence the name "Radocon."

Quoting one advertisement: "Victoreen Model 575 Radocon measures both rate of dose and total dose. Visible and audible signals show progress and automatic termination of treatment at preset dose. Wide selection of interchangeable probes covering broad total dose, energy and intensity ranges."

On the left side of the monitor are two lights, a red upper light and a green lower one. In the middle, just below the meter face, is a mechanical register that integrates the dose in roentgens. The three knobs to the right control the register setting. On the lower left is the range control switch. The knob on the lower right is a zero adjust.

Range: 0-10, 0-30, 0-100 R/min

Integrated Dose: 0-999 R

Size: 7" x 8 1/2" x 10"
