IM-181/PD Pocket Dosimeter (1960s, 1970s)
The IM-181/PD is a military direct reading pocket dosimeter that measures gamma ray and x-ray exposures in the 0-1 roentgen range. Unfortunately, these particular examples (IM-181 and IM-181A) carry no information about the manufacturer. The first reference I have for the IM-181 is the 1966 version of the List of Military and Civil Defense Radiac Devices—it does not refer to IM-181A. However, the 1975 List of Radiacs in the Navy Program states that both the IM-181 and 181A are standard instruments. The 1987 version of the List of Military and Civil Defense Radiac Devices states that the IM-181, 181A and 181B are all standard models.
Size: ca. 0.5” diameter and 4” long
Weight: ca. 1 oz.
