Bendix Pocket Dosimeters (ca. 1960s, 1970s)

The pictured dosimeters were manufactured by the Bendix Aviation Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The upper dosimeter, a Model 862 that reads from 0-200 mR, was possibly manufactured sometime during the 1960s. The second dosimeter, a Model 1200-5, reads from 0-5R and possibly dates from the 1970s. The Model 1200-5 is described on the label at the charging end of the barrel as a "Low energy dosimeter."

Size:

  • Model 862: 4 1/8” long and 1/2” in diameter
  • Model 1200-5: 4 1/2" long and 1/2" in diameter

It’s not too far from the truth to say "when you've seen one pocket dosimeter, you've seen them all," but to only have these two examples from one of the world's largest manufacturers of dosimeters in the collection is somewhat embarrassing.
