Tennessee Science Bowl
Students from across the state compete in the annual Tennessee Science Bowl, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory Site Office and other local businesses, including ORAU.
The competition features teams of students from public, private and home schools who compete in a question-and-answer format that tests their knowledge the STEM subjects. The winning team receives an all-expenses paid trip to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Science Bowl, which brings together top students from across the United States to test their knowledge in a wide range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and math. The annual event, held in Washington, D.C., features more than 13,000 students and is the only science competition in the United States sponsored by a federal agency.
The Tennessee Science Bowl is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory Site Office and other local businesses including ORAU, which manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science Education on behalf of DOE and has partnered with the agency to coordinate the Tennessee Science Bowl since it was launched in 1991.
