Background:

David Stone, Ph.D., is a professor of philosophy and public health at Oakland University, where has also served as the vice president for research since 2016. Before coming to Oakland University, he was at Northern Illinois University for 10 years, where he held the positions of director of Office of Sponsored Projects, professor of public health, associate vice president for research, associate professor of public health, associate vice president for research compliance and development, and associate vice president for strategic innovation and planning.

From 2001 to 2005, Stone worked in two institutions in Thessaloniki, Greece. He was first the founding director of the Office of Sponsored Research and Institutional Development and special assistant to the president at the American College of Thessaloniki. He then went on to become the founding director of the South-East European Research Center at the University of Sheffield’s UK and City College. Stone has also served as a senior research associate at the Institute for Urban Health Policy, Research and Education within the Boston Department of Health and Hospitals; the director of research at the Fenway Community Health Center in Boston; the founding associate director of the Pediatric and Adolescent Health Research Center of Tufts New England Medical Center, while he also served as an assistant professor of community medicine at Tufts Medical School; and as the founder and director of BostonCares for Injured Youth.

Stone is a former American Council on Education Fellow. He also attended Harvard Law School’s Special Student program and completed professional development programs offered by Harvard University and the Society for College and University Planning. He has conducted research with more than $40 million in grant support from national, international, and foundation sources, provided research consulting services to several major universities, organized eight international conferences, and authored more than 100 publications, conference papers, lectures and abstracts.
