LASER is an acronym which stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. The laser produces an intense, highly directional beam of light. Laser safety is safe design, use and implementation of lasers to minimize the risk of laser accidents, especially those involving eye injuries. Even relatively small amounts of laser light can lead to permanent eye injuries. It is important to work safely with and around lasers. American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers, Z136.1, provides guidance for the safe use of lasers and laser systems by defining control measures for each of seven laser hazard classifications.
